We form our very first sense of belonging the moment we come into the world through our family. The bond we build with our family members, regardless of what we may feel toward them, is also the bond we establish with “home,” which we hope to be the safest place. For this reason, if we are to speak of a “family,” we believed it was necessary to begin with the notion of the “household.”
Each room constructed within the exhibition is a household in itself, and each household touches upon a different theme: the rights of mother and father, generations, children, roots, being a spouse, companionship…
At the same time, the works of several generations come together as guests within the same household: centuries-old calligraphic panels, contemporary calligraphy and illumination works, chandeliers inspired by Islamic geometric patterns, and digital artworks… Much like children and grandchildren who have grown up in different times and worlds, yet gather in the same home at the end of the day, sharing warm conversations and sitting by the knees of their grandparents.
We hope that this exhibition brings a sense of peace to everyone who visits, and reminds them of the feelings of longing and reunion. We sincerely believe that the relationship formed between the viewer and the artwork will enrich our household.
